And That’s Why You Always Leave A Note — Or Two

Disclaimer: This post is not for the faint of heart. It is filled with lots of mushy and romantic language, and only for those who can truly appreciate sappy and gooey stories. So, now that you’ve been prepared, stop right here if you don’t want to hear me gush about my fiance and how much I love him. Again, you’ve been warned.

Just like most couples, Ethan and I have developed little rituals over the years that are specific to our relationship and help us show our unique love for one another. One new addition to our line-up has been leaving a note for each other as often as possible. If you’ve been following along with my blog for some time now, you will remember that I have a pretty insane work schedule that doesn’t line up AT ALL with Ethan’s class schedule during most weekdays.

Usually we end up communicating via text during the day. Which is nice and not at all different from how almost all other couples keep in contact nowadays. But it still sucked we couldn’t see each other in person each morning and night. We really missed, at the very least, that goodbye kiss in the morning and good night kiss in the evening. So, we came up with a plan to make things a little easier. We started to leave a sticky note for each other as often as possible.

At first it would just be practical things to communicate what needed to get done. You know, “Hey, could you to blah blah blah in the morning. Thanks.” But then they got sweeter and sweeter and now it is my favorite part of the day to wake up knowing I might have an adorable note waiting for me on the kitchen counter, or come home late at night after work to find one stuck to the coffee table. Honestly, it is so sweet. And I love him for taking the time out of his busy mornings and evenings to write them. So, if you find yourself in the same situation as us, I highly recommend trying it! You don’t have to be a writer to express your feelings either. Heck, it’s a sticky note. How hard is it to fill a sticky note?

I show my love by doing all the internet research, emailing (as my spouse does not do email – or texting – or the internet in general), and online related things. Because he does so much more for me! (and, alas, our notes are always practical.)

That is a FANTASTIC way to show your love. Taking care of something your partner can’t do or isn’t great at is so considerate. I love it!

I’d love to do something like this! Although I have left notes around the house at times, I don’t think I can get my spouse to so it. IF he wanted to, he could have done it in response to mine. He is a very practical guy! 🙂
